Upcoming Video Game Releases for October 2015

While most people busy themselves with Halloween this month, we hardcore gamers look forward to new releases that will keep us hooked to our consoles all night. Here are some of the upcoming games to look forward to this October 2015.

1. Halo 5: Guardians

Yes, yes—we know you all can’t wait to get your hands on the latest installment of the Halo franchise. Fortunately, the game is officially coming out this October 27th. Following the story of Spartan-II Master Chief Petty Officer John-117, Halo 5: Guardians is set after the Spartan Ops from Halo 4, and will focus on the operations and various investigations of the Blue Team. Apart from this, Halo 5: Guardians will feature playable character Agent Locke, who will go on a mission to locate the Master Chief after the mysterious disappearance of the Blue Team. The perspective of this “legendary manhunter” will switch with that of the main protagonist throughout the game.

Exclusive to the Xbox One console, Halo 5: Guardians will run at 60 frames per second (FPS) with a four-player online campaign co-op mode. Sadly, there won’t be any offline gameplay and local networking options, as well as split-screen cooperative campaigns. According to producer Josh Holmes, the Halo 5 engine will use a “new progressive resolution system that allows us to dynamically scale the resolution at which we render the game.” Still, Halo 5: Guardians will feature more player mobility and new enhancements called Spartan abilities, so that’s got to be exciting, right?

2. WWE 2K16

Wrestling fans rejoice! WWE’s 2016 edition continues the tradition of giving gamers hard-hitting wrestling action where you can play as your favorite superstars on the ring. With the largest roster of playable characters in the franchise yet, WWE 2K16 delivers 120 of the best wrestlers in the industry, with debuts from Kalisto, Hideo Itami, Diego, Samoa Joe, Stevie Ray, Typhoon, Kevin Owens, Rosa Mendes, Blake, and so much more. Jim Ross says that “We’re getting great feedback on Jerry Lawler and me reuniting. I’d guess that this will be the final time that the two of us will work together in any WWE projects at least to the best of my knowledge. I hope that the fans support our efforts on this new video game that is loaded with new innovations, whistles and bells. Jerry and I did not miss a beat and we got to call a ton of Stone Cold bouts for the game.”

Oh, and did we mention that THE Arnold Schwarzenegger is here, too? Just check out the Terminator (both in his birthday suit and in his T2 get-up) in action in this trailer below, and get psyched for the October 27 release!

3. Tales of Zestiria

Die-hard Tales fans will have to wait until October 20 for yet another magical journey from Bandai Namco, but we’re sure that it will be worth it once it comes out. Tales of Zestiria is the next epic adventure that’s bound to give any JRPG fan goosebumps—the good kind, that is. Sorey is a young human who was raised by the mystical Seraphim, and as such, he is bound to save Glenwood using the powers he was destined with. True to classic Tales fashion, the battle system is characterized by the Linear Motion Battle System, wherein “Real Map Battles” are more interactive because the topography greatly affects your characters’ abilities. Of course, the trademark “artes” are still present, along with standard close-quarter attacks and long-range spells. An exciting plus is the fact that Sorey has the ability to use “Armitization”. This enables him to fuse with a Seraph partner to deal massive damage and kick some serious butts.  You can watch the stunning exhibitions in the clip below. And by the way, would you just look at those amazing character designs? Those alone will definitely make you want to play the game!

4. The Legend of Zelda: Tri Force Heroes

From Nintendo 3DS comes the much-awaited co-op action adventure that’s packed with the typical Zelda charm we all know and love. On October 22, The Legend of Zelda: Tri Force Heroes lets three players (basically Link with three costume themes) team up to solve puzzles and fight bad guys. You can also play as a single player and use touchscreen-controlled companions. If you choose to play alongside friends, you can either do so locally or online via multiplayer. What’s cute and quirky about this game is that the type of costume that you choose for Link is actually crucial to the gameplay, like gaining extra hearts when you pick Zelda’s pink dress. You can also choose from outfits like the samurai armor, a cat suit, a bomb suit, and even some lucky loungewear.  According to Hiromasa Shikata, the game director for Tri Force Heroes, “We consulted with folks here in the U.S. and in Japan, and asked ‘Do we think we’re going too much of a negative reaction by having Link wear a dress?’ For us as developers, the more variation we have, and that we can provide to players, the better for everyone.” We can’t agree more!

5. Adventure Time: Finn and Jake Investigations

Oh my glob! It’s algebraic; it’s mathematical; it’s Adventure Time: Finn and Jake Investigations! This fully 3D adventure game makes a splash this October 20th with season six surprises as Finn and Jake take it upon themselves to become Professional Investigators. Players get to explore the Land of Ooo as they check out strange occurrences, mysterious events, and random disappearing citizens, battling fearsome foes (in the Jake Suit!) and solving puzzles along the way. Featuring the voices of the original cast of the show, Adventure Time: Finn and Jake Investigations makes you feel like you’re in an actual TV episode, as you gather clues and encounter familiar faces like Marcy, Simon, Magic Man, Tree Trunks, Ice King, and even Cuber. Plus, you get to see Lumpy Space Princess act out like she always does—isn’t that what makes the show so lumpin’ awesome? Step inside Ice King’s quarters, roam around the Candy Kingdom, and sneak into Lemongrab’s castle as you try to get to the bottom of your cases. It’s just like Jake says in the game, “Yeah, cool! Let’s spy on people!”

There are tons of little surprises for loyal fans of the series (is that a Rootbeer Guy cake?), and you can get your hands on this sweet, sweet game no matter what your console is (PS4, PS3, WiiU, Xbox One, 360, 3DS). So, “what time is it?” Obviously, it’s Adventure Time!
